Privacy Policy
At Scira AI, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our AI research assistant on the web, through connected apps, and in the Scira iPhone app.
We collect the following types of information:
- Chat content. Messages you send, AI responses, thread titles, and related metadata needed to run conversations and sync them across your devices.
- Attachments and voice input. Images, documents, and other files you attach to a thread, plus audio you submit for voice input (we send audio for transcription).
- Custom instructions and preferences. Settings such as enabled research sources, model choices, and optional custom instructions you provide.
- Search and usage data. How you interact with the service, including features used, time spent, and per-model request counts on Pro and Max plans (see our Terms for quotas).
- Device information. Device type, browser or app build, IP address, and operating system.
- Account information. Email address, name, profile image, and sign-in provider details when you create an account.
- Subscription data. Plan tier, subscription status, and billing history (not payment card numbers).
- Cookies (web). Cookies and similar technologies on scira.ai to keep you signed in and improve the experience.
Payment data. Scira does not collect or store payment card numbers, bank details, or other sensitive payment credentials. Payments are handled by our processors: Polar and DodoPayments on the web, and Apple for in-app subscriptions on iPhone.
We use your information to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the AI chat and research service
- Run searches, tool calls, and integrations you request (web, academic, GitHub, etc.)
- Track per-model usage so we can enforce plan-specific caps for Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, and other models
- Store your chat history in your account so you can continue threads and sync devices
- Personalize and enhance your experience
- Detect, prevent, and address abuse, fraud, and technical issues
- Communicate service updates and respond to support requests
Scira is an AI product. To answer your questions, we send relevant content from your request to Scira's servers and to third-party inference providers (such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and xAI, depending on the model or feature you use).
- What we send. Chat messages, attachments, voice transcriptions, custom instructions, and account identifiers needed to authenticate and deliver the service.
- Why. To generate responses, run research tools, produce images when enabled, and power related features you use in the app or on the web.
- Provider retention. Inference providers process each request to deliver results. They operate under a zero data retention policy for this processing: they do not store your prompts or use them to train their models.
- What Scira keeps. We store your chat history, projects, and account data in your Scira account so you can use the product across sessions and devices, unless you use a temporary thread or delete your account.
- iPhone app. When you sign in to the Scira app, you agree to this Privacy Policy and our Terms. We do not show a separate in-app consent step before chat; using the service after sign-in means you understand that your content is processed as described here. You can read this policy anytime in Settings or at scira.ai/privacy-policy.
We share your information only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers. Third parties that help us operate the service:
- Vercel - hosting and infrastructure
- Inference providers - OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI, and others, to process chat and generate responses (see §03)
- Connected MCP apps - when you connect a third-party app (GitHub, Notion, Slack, etc.) on Pro or Max, queries you direct to that integration are sent to the provider you authorized
- Payment processors - Polar, DodoPayments, and Apple (App Store) for subscriptions
- Legal compliance. When required by applicable law, regulation, or legal process.
- Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information. That said, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is fully secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of your personal information
- Delete your account in the Scira iPhone app (Settings) or by emailing us
- Object to or restrict certain processing activities
- Data portability
- Withdraw consent where applicable
Our service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
We retain your personal information for as long as needed to provide our services and fulfil the purposes in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required by law. When the retention period expires, we securely delete or anonymize your data.
You can delete your account and associated data in the Scira iPhone app under Settings, or by emailing zaid@scira.ai. We action deletion requests within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal or compliance reasons. Deleting your account cancels web subscriptions we control; Apple App Store subscriptions must also be canceled in your Apple ID subscription settings if you do not want future charges.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Updated" date.
